Historical context

The Arduinici were the dominant comital dynasty of sub-Alpine Piedmont from the mid-10th century. Arduino il Glabro (sometimes called Arduino III) was a lord of this dynasty active around 975-1005 AD, exercising authority over territories in the upper Tanaro valley and the Langhe hills — the ancient Vagienni heartland.
